A Note from the Editor
It's quite possible that more words have been written on leadership than any other business topic.
There's not a great way to quantify this, but an Amazon search pulls up more than 100,000 books with the term in their title or description—and that number increases every year.
And yet, middling leadership remains. A 2017 study found that only a third of employees found their leadership to in inspirational. A more recent article says that in the past few years, "there has been a rise in the prevalence of toxic leadership styles in business."
This month, we bring you some of the leaders in our field to talk about their own approaches and philosophies, starting with David Baiada, who stepped into a leadership role at his company, BAYADA Home Health Care, and says their culture of employee trust is what allows them to succeed. Lindsey Oak from BerryDunn looks at how what happens at the top affects employee engagement—and how important that can be in a tough staffing environment. And Miriam Lieber of Lieber consulting outlines five ways you can take your employees up a level from technical competency to build the next generation of leaders.
You'll find so much more inside as well, including features on client relations, mobility, incontinence and nutrition, and the latest from our columnists as well, including this year's priorities for complex rehab technology. We hope being fully informed helps you develop in your own leadership path.
As always, thanks for reading!
