Describe your current role at your company.
My primary role is working with builders and developers in our 52-county service area, assisting them with all of their gas needs, including appliances, fireplaces, water heaters, generators and outdoor kitchens.
How did you get your start in the propane industry?
I was hired 15 years ago by our president and CEO, Dan Richardson, to develop an alternative fuel market for Conger LP Gas. This included fueling school buses, converting vehicles and lawnmowers to propane and working with farmers on propane irrigation engines.
What do you think would surprise someone about the job you do?
I think someone not familiar with the propane industry would be surprised at the number of uses for propane.
Name some of your greatest personal successes.
I have been married for 45 years and have two daughters and three grandchildren. That would be my greatest accomplishment.
Describe some of the biggest professional challenges you’ve experienced over your career and how you met those challenges.
Having been in sales for 45 years, I have worked in several industries. When I came to the propane industry, my sales background allowed me to connect with the different markets that we serve. When I started at Conger LP Gas 15 years ago, propane as an alternative fuel was still new to the market. For example, when we sold our first propane irrigation engine to replace a diesel engine, the farmer realized that by moving to propane, he was saving money on fuel and had a cleaner-burning engine. He then told other farmers who were interested in making the switch. Conger LP Gas is still the only propane dealer in the state of Georgia to carry propane irrigation engines.

What’s the coolest thing your company is working on right now?
We have just opened our ninth location in south Georgia, and it has been overwhelming how each community has accepted us. We had four stores under construction at one time in different areas of Georgia and north Florida, and each location is serving what was an underserved market.
What’s the best advice you can give to someone who just started their career?
In general, listen to the people around you. Everyone has a different perspective, and if you listen, you can put it to work being of service to others.
What do you do to relax after a day of work?
I’m fortunate that after 45 years, I still enjoy being around my wife, Jan, and we’re able to discuss our day. In addition, I have to spend time with the grandchildren; they keep me humble.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It would be a ribeye steak with a baked potato that I prepared.
What’s something not a lot of people know about you?
That I enjoy cooking and baking.
