Mimaki JFX220-2515

Mimaki’s JFX220-2515 is a UV-LED flatbed printer in the company’s mid-range. Its 98" X 59" bed fits a full 4' X 8' board with room for smaller pre-cut pieces, and media clearance reaches 4". The printer’s Anchor Technology consists of a vacuum system that applies suction only where media is present, which cuts down the masking and prep that usually precede a flatbed job. It is designed to hold warped substrates such as corrugated board and acrylic sheet. Four staggered piezo heads in a dual-CMYK arrangement deliver up to 226 square feet per hour in four-color mode. New fluorescent pink and yellow inks widen the color range, and texture tools support 2.5D, emboss and Braille effects. RasterLink8, Mimaki’s updated RIP software, drives the workflow, and applications span signage, point-of-purchase displays, building materials and packaging.

Canon Colorado XL

Canon’s Colorado XL-series extends UVgel technology to the 3.2-meter graphics market with a platform 3.4 meters wide. It includes the Colorado XL7R roll-to-roll printer and the XL7H hybrid, which adds a flatbed table for rigid media. Both use the UVgel 860 gel set, formulated for rigid and flexible applications, plus new UVgel 850 printheads. The carriage uses DynamicMotion Control for accuracy on challenging media, and UVgel FullBeam Curing is new to the series. The TRIdrive vacuum belt uses three rollers and multiple vacuum zones to reduce wrinkling and skewing, and it detects and corrects media position. Canon rates speed at up to 211 square meters per hour in express mode. Options carried over from the Colorado M-series include UVgel white.

Epson SureColor F370 & Sublimation Primer for Cotton

Epson’s SureColor F370 is a compact, $999, dye-sublimation printer for makers, small businesses, schools, and growing customization shops. It supports 13" X 19" media, and its transfer paper modes are tuned for crisp, vibrant results on fabrics and hard goods. Alongside the printer, Epson introduced a Sublimation Primer for cotton, a liquid solution that enables dye-sublimation on white and light-colored cotton garments. The primer extends the process to other natural fabrics. Sublimation has traditionally depended on polyester or polyester-coated surfaces, so the primer widens the goods a shop can offer without adopting a separate process such as DTG or DTF.
