US Supreme Court Furnace Rule Decision Ends DOE Rule

The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) announced June 9 that a United States Supreme Court furnace rule decision vacated the judgment of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in a challenge to a U.S. Department of Energy furnace rule. According to NPGA, the challenge was filed jointly with other natural gas industry organizations. NPGA said the DOE rule would have required all furnace sales to meet a 95% annual fuel utilization efficiency standard by the end of 2028. The association argued the rule would have effectively eliminated sales of noncondensing propane furnaces because existing models would not have met the requirement. The Supreme Court issued a 56-word opinion and cited a brief filed by the U.S. solicitor general supporting the challenge. “Today is a great day for the industry, and the fight continues in courts throughout the country,” NPGA stated.

PERC Introduces ‘Your Power Play’ Campaign to Showcase Propane’s Advantage for Trade Professionals

The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) launched “Your Power Play,” a new omnichannel campaign using hockey-inspired chalk talk to position propane as the strategic solution for American energy resilience against an unreliable electric grid. The campaign challenges energy decision-makers to gain “the ultimate energy advantage” by choosing propane over more expensive or less reliable energy sources. The campaign’s series of 30- and 15-second spots emphasizes how six core markets benefit from propane’s key attributes: Affordable: An American-made, cost-effective solution to protect against rising energy costs. Abundant: A readily available, plentiful and portable energy source. Reliable: Dependable on-site power that provides peace of mind. Safe: Trusted by millions of homes and businesses across the country. “We are excited to share why propane is uniquely capable of providing solutions to many of the energy issues affecting our country today, like grid instability and skyrocketing costs,” said Tucker Perkins, PERC’s president and CEO. “‘Your Power Play’ encourages American home and business owners to take control and embrace the opportunity to ensure their energy security with propane.” “Your Power Play” campaign assets are available for propane retailers on PERC’s Resource Catalog.
